Producers - Anna's Happy Trotters
Anna Longthorp has been into pigs since she was eight and what makes hers so different is that they are free range and live their lives completely outdoors, unlike outdoor reared pigs which might be born and bred outside but once they are weaned at four weeks are taken inside. Anna says her pigs are happier because they have more room to play and burn up more energy. And that makes for better meat. The breeds help too. The Landrace and Duroc-cross sows produce pigs with low levels of back fat and marbled meat that enhances the flavour and succulence, while the Maximus boar is a very muscular breed that gives lean meat and lovely big chops.
