Food Trail - The Dales trail -

This trail begins at The Grassington House Hotel with coffee and tea available on arrival. Meet others joining the trail and your expert Yorkshire Food Finder guide.

Our first visit is to the Kilnsey Park trout farm in Wharfedale run by Jamie and Amy Roberts where you will learn about the fishery and have an opportunity to catch your own trout. Have a go at preparing it for the table and perhaps smoking it too. Lunch is sure to feature Kilnsey trout and other local produce as we make the most of our time here.

After lunch we head over the top to Malhamdale, home of the Town End Farm Shop in the shadow of Malham Cove, one of the many wonders of Yorkshire. Here you will meet Chris Wildman to learn about and taste some of his celebrated charcuterie. We are proud to promote Yorkshire charcuterie as it is every bit as good as any found on the continent. While here you will have time to shop with many Yorkshire products to tempt you. Or if weather permits, sit outside and soak-up the wonder that is the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Next we travel along dry stone walled dales lanes to Settle where we will visit Andy and Kathy Swinscoe’s Courtyard Dairy. Andy is both an affineur and cheesemonger with many awards for maturing and selling cheese far and wide. Getting the inside story from Andy is an experience not to be missed. Integral to the cheeses on offer are some of the 80-plus cheeses made in Yorkshire including the eponymous Dale End cheddar made by Alistair Pearson at the Botton Creamery high on the North York Moors.

Finally we return you to The Grassington House Hotel where chef-patron John Rudden will prepare dinner making the most of Dales produce and featuring ingredients discovered on today’s trail.
