Food Trail - Thixendale fix -
As a prelude to Malton's Food Lovers Festival in May and the town's Game & Seafood Festival in September, your exclusive food trail starts at the iconic Talbot Hotel in Malton where you will meet your guide for the day and fellow guests. We won’t linger too long as we will have you back here with time to browse later in the day.
Our first visit is to Ryedale Vineyards, the northern-most commercial vineyard in God's own county Here Stuart and Elizabeth Smith established an amazing track record for their, in particular sparkling wines from vines planted in 2006 and 2008. Now, the baton has been passed to John Fletcher who worked with the Smiths from 2010. John will show you one of his vineyards and the winery where great things are happening. Then, it is time to taste a selection of their single estate award-winning wines and learn about how they make their sparkling wines. Of course, there is an opportunity to shop either now or later by mail order.
We will then tuck-in to a satisfying lunch with Yorkshire writ large. Your specially created lunch menu will be inspired by seasonal Yorkshire ingredients and the products that you have discovered on this trail.
Our second visit is to the home of Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil located in beautiful Thixendale. Here you will learn why Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil is the choice of discerning chefs and home cooks. When you understand the versatility of this oil, like us you will use little else when cooking What’s more you get to taste Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil and a range of products made from it including mayonnaises, dressings and oils. Then, if you are hooked, a chance to buy to your heart’s content.
Just a short walk of drive away is The Robert Fuller Gallery where you will have a chance to learn more about the work of Yorkshire's leading wildlife artists and see what's happening in birds' nests nearby through Robert's web-cam facility.
Too soon it is time for us to head back to Malton with a chance to explore Malton on your own.
