Food Trail - Treks in the city: York's only guided gourmet trail -

Your itinerary

Your gourmet food trail begins in the heart of York with refreshments at Andrew Pern's The Star Inn the City. Here you will meet your fellow guests and your expert Yorkshire Food Finder guide...

Peek at Puckett’s

The first behind the scenes visit is to Puckett's Pickles and owner Sarah Puckett, who will guide you through her Yorkshire pickles and chutneys – all made in a Victorian terraced house within a mile of York Minster. You can learn how to pickle seasonal vegetables to take home.

Have a dough at Haxby Bakehouse

The second visit takes you to Phil and Tina Clayton's Haxby Bakehouse where Phil will explain why the traditional slow fermentation methods for his ‘real bread’ make such a difference. You’ll be able to tuck in to a snack and drink here.

Graze on Guppy’s

Next is Guppy's Chocolates, a 21st century expression of York's great chocolate-making heritage. Here Peter and Fran Guppy will share their story and their brilliant chocolates, with a chance to make your own for friends and family (or keep them all to yourself!

Blend in at York Coffee Emporium

Laurence and Philippa Beardmore will show you how they roast single varietal beans in the artisan tradition, as well as creating both regular and bespoke blends for restaurants, coffee shops and the retail trade. A caffeine injection is guaranteed, with hot refreshment from their state-of-the-art espresso machines.

Soak it all up at The Star

Then it’s a return to The Star Inn the City, with time to enjoy the riverside setting before a specially created menu, featuring the produce seen on your trail and other great Yorkshire food. Whatever the time of year, your dinner will showcase Yorkshire's abundant larder.
